Alice Zilberberg

About

Alice Zilberberg is a photographer and visual artist born in Estonia, raised in Israel, and is currently based in Toronto, Canada. A graduate of Ryerson University’s Photography program, she has exhibited in galleries in Canada, the US and Japan. Her work has sold in several auction houses and charity auctions such as Waddingtons, Snap! Toronto and ORT. Working digitally, she uses image compositing to meld fantasy with reality.

Inspired by folklore, mythology, and fairy tales, her work places a new gloss on traditional themes. Zilberberg expands on depictions of femininity and the environment as portrayed in literature, pagan tradition, religious formalism and the deity through image manipulation. She extracts the essence of female power, taking goddesses back to their origins, removing outdated notions of a weaker sex, questioning our values, the treatment of the natural environment and the state of the earth. The characters in her works are women that are powerful, capable, alluring and defeating.
